"Golden Cantaloupes’ color really help the grower to distinguish when the cantaloupe is getting ready to harvest," says Enrique Rodriguez, Product Specialist, Melons of one of the two innovations that Bayer shares in our Behind the Greens video.

This is the first of two for Bayer Vegetable Seeds unique varieties Rodriguez and Produce Chain Specialist for Melon & Watermelon, Matthew Deceault, discuss as they take us through the fields of vibrant and juicy melons.

After exploring the distinct flavor profiles, qualities, and convenience of the Golden Cantaloupe, with a deep magenta internal flesh and small cavity to reduce waste, the members discuss the new Crispy Pear melon, which does not sunburn and instead turns an intense hue.

Matt Deceault, Produce Chain Specialist for Melon & Watermelon, Bayer

"The Crispy Pear is one of most unique items in the melon category today," says Deceault. "The skin is extremely smooth, the color on it is a very bright yellow. If you leave it out, the skin and exterior turns an orange color."
