R.E.A.CH. International Holds 15th Annual Greenhouse Competitions, Celebrating With New Trophies and Awards; Art Barron Details



LEAMINGTON, ONTARIO, CANADA - An exciting day in the greenhouse industry recently took place as R.E.A.CH. International held its annual Greenhouse Competitions on June 15. At the event, several honors were given, including “The Hottest Tomato,” “The Perfect Pepper,” “The Coolest Cucumber,” and the “Best Berry” Competitions. This year also had some exciting changes, including the addition of a Specialty Berry category and the Chef’s Choice Awards.

Art Barron, President, R.E.A.CH. International“We are so excited about these new Chef’s Choice awards,” said President of R.E.A.CH. International, Art Barron. “Chef Henry Furtado had 136 products to go through and choose some produce to inspire some appetizers that were served at the awards ceremony. He chose 11 products that were each awarded Chef’s Choice certificates.”

With a plethora of products to choose from, it must not have been easy. However, some of this year’s winners were:

  • Pure Flavor® - Pure Flavor Mini Cucumber (Overall Best Cucumber)
  • Nature Fresh Farms - Nature Fresh Red Bell Pepper (Overall Best Pepper)
  • Mucci Farms - Carolina Reaper (Hottest Pepper)
  • SUNSET Mastronardi Produce® - SUNSET® WOW® pearberry™ (Overall Best Berry)
  • Nature Fresh Farms - Black Label Hiiro’s (Overall Best Tomato)

This year’s event was the 15th iteration, which celebrates Essex County in Canada. The charity, which runs the annual event, uses the proceeds from the competition to sponsor over 50 children in Uganda, Africa, annually. With the additional donations, R.E.A.CH. was able to continue to partner with and support the efforts of charities that help the local community.

R.E.A.CH. International recently held its annual Greenhouse Competitions, shedding the spotlight onto several suppliers with awards and honors

According to the release, the Greenhouse Competitions were presented in part by sponsors Red Sun Farms and Nature Fresh Farms. Expert judges from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), grocery store Produce Managers, Culinary Guild of Windsor Chefs, and many others judged the entries with a list of criteria developed by Head Judge Shalin Khosla.

The Greenhouse Competitions celebrate Canada’s Essex County while also supporting underprivileged children in Uganda, Africa
