Thieves Attempt to Nab $10,000 in Garlic and Onions from Truck

UJJAIN, INDIA – Thieves in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India tried to make off with Rs 7 lakh (roughly $10,000 USD) worth of onions and garlicbut were thwarted thanks to the efforts of concerned citizens.

According to Indian news source The Free Press Journal, a truck departed from Krishiupaj Chimanganj Mandi laden with onion and garlic on Wednesday, February 15. On route to Lucknow, the truck’s crew—a driver and a cleaner—opted to give two passengers bound for Shivpuri a lift.

Officials believe the two passengers offered the driver and cleaner some sweets—ostensibly as a means of giving thanks. The offering was not as advertised, though, and the truck’s crew began to immediately feel the effects of a powerful intoxicant.

Thankfully, the two men fell unconscious just as they reached a weigh station; the staff at the weigh station forced the would-be thieves to flee and later rushed the two unconscious men to the hospital.

Victims did not regain consciousness until the next day and were unable to make a statement to state police as of Friday morning.

Where will these and other nefarious bandits reappear to threaten key crops, and will Madhya Pradesh police foil their filching ways? AndNowUKnow will let you know.
