Whole Foods Plans 365 Location for Chicago

AUSTIN, TX - Whole Foods Market has selected a new market for its new, small-format grocery chain. 365 by Whole Foods Market will now be making its debut in Chicago, IL, with this new suburban mall location.

The new store will be a 30,000-square-foot development in the new Evergreen Plaza Mall just outside of the city of Chicago, people familiar with the matter told news source Crain’s Chicago Business.

John Mackey, Co-CEO, Whole Foods Market

“365 may well serve as a gateway for Whole Foods, with the ability to go where Whole Foods couldn’t otherwise go,” said Whole Foods Co-CEO John Mackey during the Morgan Stanley Global Consumer and Retail Conference in November. “365 is taking the best elements of competitors and Whole Foods and putting it in a very compelling package.”

The 733,986-square-foot mall was purchased out of foreclosure for $10.5 million in May by Lormax Stern and DeBartolo, according to Cook County records, and now the company is demolishing and replacing the existing mall with a 400,000-square-foot new retail space. Mall leasing agent Chris Brochert from Lormax Stern estimates the entire project to be complete by fall 2017.

This will be one of the first locations 365 has selected on the eastern half of the United States. The chain currently has announced stores in Bellevue, WA; Houston and Cedar Park, TX; Portland, OR; Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, CA; and Cincinnati, OH.
