Banana Truck Spill Closes Pennsylvania Roadway

MILFORD TOWNSHIP, PA - No, you are not experiencing déjà vu when you read the headline of this article. There actually has been another banana truck incident—the third we’ve reported on since July. This one took place in Milford Township, Pennsylvania, where a tractor-trailer carrying bananas overturned.

In a report from local publication, The Morning Call, the source said the crash caused northbound traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension to need to reroute. The bananas reportedly blocked all northbound lanes between the state’s Quakertown and Lehigh Valley interchanges, Exit 44 and Exit 56 respectively.

The publication said that the road’s traffic was detoured at the Quakertown interchange for more than four hours, opening again at 10 AM.

State police Cpl. Holly Billings shared that the cause was a crash involving two cars, which the driver of the tractor-trailer attempted, thus overturning the banana carrying cart and its contents. Billings also confirmed that there were no major injuries resulting in the crash, but three people involved were taken to a hospital.

This incident comes just one month after a banana truck caught fire on an Oregon interstate, and just two months after ANOTHER banana truck caught fire on the same Oregon interstate. Brake failure was the cause of both tropical truck fires.

Will another banana truck incident add to the trifecta we have going on in October? For the fruits sake I hope not, but I can’t say I wont be riveted.
