Giant/Martin's to Lower Prices on Thousands of Items; Transforming Produce Departments

CARLISLE, PA - Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets has announced it has lowered prices on more than 1,000 key staple items, as well as introduced a newly transformed produce department. The new produce departments have a focus on local, fresh offerings, better prices, and better quality, the company says. Giant/Martin’s will mark lower-priced items with blue tags on items in the fresh, nonperishable, and health and beauty care departments.

Ton Lenkevich, President, Giant Food“Our customers can find thousands of blue tags throughout our stores which mean thousands of low prices to fit any budget,” explained Tom Lenkevich, President of Giant Food, in a press release. “It’s part of our commitment to our customers to help them save money, save time and eat well.”

This latest price drop is part of Giant/Martin's ongoing strategy to help customers “save time, save money, and eat well,” according to the company. The strategy includes makeovers of several of Giant/Martin's produce and bakery departments, with the remainder of the stores receiving these transformations by the end of the year.

Giant/Martin’s move comes on the heels of several other retailers choosing to lower prices on fresh produce, including Kroger’s Columbus Division, and Whole Foods’ Austin locations. Produce, fresh, and peripheral store departments are some of the fastest growing sectors of grocery retail, making them prime targets for pricing cuts.
