Avocados from Mexico recently partnered with White Memorial Medical Center to hold a contest. Malachi Cruz, a seventh grader at Utah Street School in Los Angeles, won two tickets to attend the premiere of the DreamWorks Animation's Puss in Boots. The young chef won their flip-cam video contest with the documentation of his journey with HELP, a program designed to educate children at-risk of developing diabetes, how to lead healthier lives through diet and exercise. With his low-fat Panini recipe and the amazing assistance of HELP, Malachai states" "The HELP program has helped me in a lot of [ways]. I am more active in sports, I eat better, and I learned a lot of [things] about the stuff I eat."
The United Fresh Foundation has begun accepting nominations for the 2012 United Fresh Retail Produce Manager Awards Program. The program, established in 2005 by Ready Pac Foods, will recognize 25 exceptional retail produce managers at the United Fresh 2012 convention and expo, held this coming May in Dallas. Michael Solomon, President and CEO of Ready Pac Foods, states, "These outstanding men and women, serving everyday on the front line, are the face to our customers and their positive work can have a powerful impact on the entire supply chain."
