Amid strong demand, Calavo Growers has more than doubled their quarterly profit to record numbers. With an expected avocado harvest to tip the scales at more than 1.3 billion pounds, Calavo has seen net income bounce back after lower than expected Mexican shipments to a record 5.95 million dollars. Calavo CEo Lee Cole stated that the windfall is the result of "industry promotion, demographic shifts and awareness of the health benefits of avocados."
FreshPoint has promoted Robert Gordon to Chief Operating Officer. Gordon succeeds Kent Shoemaker, who left in late August after being selected as the new CEO of Six L's Packing. Gordon joined FreshPoint in 1988 as a produce specialist.
It's midseason in California's table grape harvest, and Dulcich and Sons is set to kickoff two more fall varieties. In addition to their current harvest of Thompson, Scarlet Royal, Red Globe and Crimson grapes, the Autumn King and Luisco are expected to come online around the middle of October. Both grapes are green and seedless and will be available through December.
