California Firm Posts $75,000 Bond to Employ Daniel Romero

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Arroyo Grande, CA-based produce company Spring Valley Produce Inc. has posted a $75,000 surety bond under the regulations of PACA.

According to a USDA press release, the bond was required in order to employ Daniel Romero, the only officer of Triple R Distributing LLC, Nogales, AZ., which was found to have committed "repeated and flagrant violations" of Section 2 of the PACA.

Any PACA licensee wishing to employ individuals who have failed to pay a reparation award or have been subject to a USDA disciplinary action must post a USDA-approved surety bond.

The USDA says it will hold the $75,000 bond for four years, providing assurance to the industry that the company will be able to pay for produce purchased and to conduct its business according to PACA rules.

In the past three years, USDA resolved approximately 4,250 PACA claims involving more than $77 million. The USDA's experts also assisted more than 7,000 callers with issues valued at approximately $110 million. These are just two examples of how USDA continues to support the fruit and vegetable industry.
