Chiquita Brands' financial results for the third quarter of 2011 are finally in, with a net sales report of $723 million and comparable loss of $16 million. The numbers reported for the GAAP net loss are $29 million and includes $11 million of refinancing costs. The reminder of Chiquita's 2011 outlook is promising, including an expectation of a net sales growth of at least 3 percent and significant improvement in full year results compared to 2010. Fernando Aguirre , Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for the company states, "Overall, our results continued to reflect the trends we have seen all year. Bananas in North America continued to perform well, Europe is starting to recover, and salads were disappointing but we've taken corrective action to reverse that trend."
With the opening of his new consulting firm Gruszka Consulting, Philip Gruszka is responding to a need not being filled in the industry and feedback from his colleagues. Mr. Gruszka, who has retired from Grimmway Enterprises Inc. as Vice President of Marketing has over 25 years of domestic marketing and sales experience in the food and beverage arena and also three years on the international scene. Philip Gruszka states, “This new venture has been conceptualized and designed to allow other companies to benefit from my experiences I have encountered while directing and managing marketing and sales departments. I am excited about being able to share this depth of knowledge with new partners.”
The Mathison family of Stemilt Growers is welcoming the Seattle Business magazine's Family Legacy Award. The honor was awarded to the company was honored at the 2011 Washington Family Business Awards for their standing as being a company that “exhibits characteristics of a progressive, forward-looking family business over multiple generations." West Mathison of Stemilt Growers states, “It’s an honor to receive the Legacy Award...
