CMI's rolling out not one or two but four distinct apple varieties this season. The Ambrosia is well known for its distinct honeyed and slightly perfumed flavor, while the Rubens offer a good balance of acidity and sweetness along with its bright red and yellow color. The Kanzi apple has one of the most intense sweet-sour flavor profiles of any apple on the market, and the CMI-exclusive Kiku is an exotic super-sweet tasting variety which will begin shipping this November.
United Fresh is reporting a record number of industry sponsors for the upcoming Washington Public Policy Conference. Platinum level sponsors include C.H. Robinson, Del Monte, Grimmway Farms and Tanimura Antle. Gold level sponsors consist of Frontera Produce, Earthbound Farms, IFCO and Mastronardi Produce. The conference gets underway September 14th in Washington, D.C.
The hands on approach to pears is translating to a financial windfall at the supermarket level. Retailers who implement pear ripening programs have seen sales volume increases of up to 25 percent, according to Pear Bureau Northwest Marketing Director Dennis James. By engaging consumers at the retail level with "check the neck" test, pear purchases are up across the board.
