The Northern California Fresh Produce and Floral Expo brought in more than 800 attendees. The event took place March 30th at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. FPFC President Carissa Mace stated, “the demand for exposure in the Northern California market is growing, so we added more booths for the Expo for 2011. But we still sold out and had several vendors on a wait list.” Retailers representing major chains such as Safeway, Save Mart, Raley’s and Grocery Outlet showed up, as well as smaller and independent companies.
Country Sweet Produce is now offering organic Romaine for the first time! Director of Sales, Cody Rose, said, “This is exciting for us and we’re glad to be ready for Easter orders. The romaine seems to be holding up beautifully during this nice stretch of weather.” The leafy greens are LGMA certified and Primus tested.
The United Fresh Produce Association is welcoming Burleson Smith as its new Vice President of Environmental Affairs and Sustainability. Mr. Smith will lead the United Fresh Foundation’s Center for Global Produce Sustainability. CEO Tom Stenzel said quote, “Burleson will play an integral role in helping our growers and the entire fresh produce supply chain in communicating their story, and enhancing sustainability measures in all we do.”
