Most people might be spending their summers running through sprinklers and splashing in the pool, but one major produce company is having none of that.
Testa Produce’s new distribution center was specifically designed to optimize water management. The 91,000 square foot facility is expected to reduce water demand by 40 percent each year. The system is comprised of a vegetated roof and system of pavers that retain rainwater and a 140,000-gallon bio swale system, which directs water first into the soil and then into a reservoir for storage. President Peter Testa stated, “We’ve put some of the most innovative systems available into play and they’re combining to dramatically reduce our consumption. It’s something all of our associates are really proud of.”
U.S. food buyers, importers and wholesalers are being offered free tours of Mexico’s farms and processing facilities. In an effort to display the country’s commitment to food safety, invitees can take part in the tours as guests of Mexico Supreme Quality and supporting agencies. Juan Laborin, President of MSQ, stated, “Mexico represents one of the finest growing regions in the world, and we want our partners in the U.S. to feel as good about it as we do.” Among the products certified by MSQ are apples, papayas, grapes, rice, beef, and garlic.
