Giumarra is poised for the start of what should be a very successful Chilean fruit season. The East Coast received their first shipload of grapes and stonefruit late last week, and the West Coast-bound ships begin arriving just after Christmas. Although these are relatively light loads, volume will ramp up steadily in the coming weeks. Chain store buyers should expect a major bump in volume by the end of January.
Sage Fruit Company has introduced a new marketing campaign called “Kids In Force”, designed to encourage kids to eat healthy and exercise. The program is available to all Sage Fruit retailers and gives kids the chance to earn fun prizes for maintaining a healthy diet and staying active. All Kids In Force program materials are free to participating retailers, including the Sage Fruit Apple Buddy logo for in store and print advertisements.
PMA fully supports the recent passing of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. This act is predicted to strongly improve childrens’ health by making fruits and vegetables more accessible in schools and by raising the nutritional value of snacks sold between meals. PMA President Bryan Silbermann commented that “We look forward to building on our ongoing relationship with USDA as it works to implement the changes put forth in the bill. Healthy kids mean a healthy future for our country.”
