SALINAS, CA – As the industry continues to move forward with innovations and impactful focus on trends, the Grower-Shipper Association (GSA) has announced another viewing of its homage to the leading influencers of our industry. The organization will be hosting a second showing of its documentary film “Historical Narratives of Salinas Valley Agriculture.”

Henry Dill, Former Chairman, Grower-Shipper Association

"The history of the Produce industry in Salinas Valley is so rich and the stories that are associated with that history are even more incredible. Through this film project, we wanted to ensure that these stories aren’t forgotten. It was my goal with this project to capture the stories of the early days on film so we can share and celebrate the journeys of our industry’s pioneers," stated Henry Dill, Immediate Past Chairman of the Grower-Shipper Association.

This feature-length film has come to be after ten months of work by members of Hartnell College’s Theater and Cinema Program. According to a press release, the film tells the story of Salinas Valley agriculture as told by the pioneers who lived it.

  • Jim Bogart
  • Ed Boutonnet
  • Andy D'Arrigo
  • Carl Dobler
  • Denny Donovan
  • Ed Given
  • Bill Gularte
  • Raymond Gularte
  • Tom Hubbard

“Historical Narratives of Salinas Valley Agriculture” stemmed from the idea of former GSA Chairman Henry Dill of Pacific International Marketing. Dill initially desired to preserve the rich history of Salinas’ local agriculture industry through the film.

"My grandpa started farming in the Salinas valley in the 1920’s and he died before I was born so I could never hear his stories, but we can preserve the many amazing stories of those individuals who are still here today. As Chairman of the Grower-Shipper Association last year, my goal was to contribute to the organization in a way that celebrated our industry and made an impact. I hope we were able to accomplish that goal with this film," Dill continued.
