Lipman is opening its first Texas repacking facility in San Antonio. Scott Russell with his forty-five years in the industry, will be overseeing the new venture that focuses on tomatoes and vegetables. Darren Micelle, Lipman Chief Operating Officer, states, “Lipman’s repacking centers are strategically located throughout the United States. The new San Antonio facility reinforces our approach to servicing customers from seed to delivery.” Mr. Micelle, continues, “This operation will further our ability to provide refreshingly dependable produce to our customers 365 days a year.”
Fred Wescott of Honeybear Brands had a vision ten years ago when he set out on his Chilean quest - to find the perfect location to grow Honeycrisp in the Southern Hemisphere. Now, Honeybear is the largest importer of apples to the U.S., with exclusive commercialization rights to the Chilean Honeycrisp from Southern America. The apples will hit produce departments around April first. Don Roper, Director of Sales and Marketing, states, “We have been working for years towards producing Honeycrisp in both the US and South America to become the only company capable of providing a comprehensive year round ‘Fresh Crop’ Honeycrisp for our exclusive retail partners. As our production continues to grow we look forward to providing Chilean Honeycrisp to the broader marketplace.”
Curry and Co. has kicked off its Vidalia Sweet Carrot season, available now and into June with its peak at the end of February and running into April and May. With good quality and an earlier start this year, the company is looking forward to both a productive and longer season. Matt Curry, President of the company, states, "We are excited about our second year growing Vidalia Sweet Carrots. Vidalia, which is a highly recognized name in the Industry is a great way for retailers to call attention to the full-sized carrot category that has at times, been stagnant in the past. And so far this season, we have received incredibly strong feedback from retailers."
