Ocean Spray, Gills Onions, and InterFresh

The happiest place on earth is going crazy for Craisins! Ocean Spray finalized a five year partnership with Walt Disney Parks & Resorts on October 19th to supply their retail points various food retail points with the trademarked "Craisins" dried cranberries. The companies are also joining forces forces to launch co-branded versions of Craisins packaging featuring Disney characters Chip 'n Dale.

The waste not, want not philosophy has paid off again Gill's Onions, as the company's pioneering alternative energy work nets them anther award. Clean Energy States Alliance recently announced their State Leadership in Clean Energy Awards, and the Gill's Onions AERS was singled out as part of California Energy Commission's Public Interest Energy Research Program award. The Advanced Energy Recovery System converts all of Gill's Onions natural onion waste into energy, which has effectively moved the Oxnard company off the grid.

The produce industry has lost one of its heroes with the passing of Philip K. Smith. Mr. Smith entered the produce community in 1973 as marketing director for Calavo Growers, where he later served as president. He was the co-founder of Interfresh, a national supplier of fruits and vegetables. Mr. Smith was also instrumental in securing the U.S. market for fresh winter fruit from Chile.
