How do you get the title for being perfect? Just ask Pure Hothouse Foods, after the company took home four awards in the Perfect Pepper Competition! REACH International hosted the 4th annual greenhouse vegetable awards during the Leamington Fair. Pure Hothouse foods took home top honors in the Best Specialty Pepper, Best Orange Pepper, Best Green Pepper and their sweet red pepper received Best Overall Pepper. President Jamie Moracci, stated quote, “We’ve got a great team of growers who work extremely hard to grow quality, great tasting vegetables and these awards really highlight their consistent dedication and skill.”

It’s a match made in food heaven! Two brands, Copper River Salmon and California Avocados have teamed up to promote their heart healthy products for the summer season. The campaign will focus on joint advertising and will feature retail point-of-sale materials, like a recipe booklet that incorporates both fresh foods. Jan DeLyser, California Avocados’ Vice President of Marketing, explained, “the Copper River salmon season synchronizes very well with peak availability and quality of California avocados, and the two products share similar nutritional benefits and target markets.” The program has already received positive feedback from foodservice editors and is scheduled to run throughout July.

The produce industry is getting even closer to setting the standard. The International Federation for Produce Standards has been granted Observer Status as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The new status cements the IFPS as a central resource for establishing a set of global produce standards. Newly elected chairman, Tom Stenzel, stated, “IFPS is a very important association in bringing together produce associations from around the world to work collectively on global produce standards.”
