With the new year comes two exciting varieties from Rainier Fruit Company. Launched on January first, the apple which is a cross between Idared, Maigold and Elstar, has already sold out and in record time. But not to worry, the Lady Alice will be hitting the store shelves soon with availabitlity extending over the next two months. Both the Junami and Lady Alice have the unique ability to build flavor while in storage, making them perfect for a post holiday launch. Both varieties are backed with an aggressive PR plan and supporting POS options. Suzanne Wolter, Director of Marketing, states "We expect both varieties to have a positive impact on the apple category over the next few years."
Consumers can tap into Frieda's wide range of citrus this season, from Moro Blood Oranges, and Mandarin varieties including Shasta, Yosemite and Tahoe to the sweet Oroblanco or Melogold, a grapefruit-pummelo hybrid. To add a little exotic flair, Frieda's is also offering citrus Kumquats, Mandarinquats, Key Limes, Limequats and the unique Ugli® Fruit, a unique Tangelo from Jamaica. The new North American Produce Transportation Guidelines are now available. The North American Produce Transportation Working Group announced their accessibility this month, presenting a best practices document endorsed by the Blue Book and the Dispute Resolution Corporation and agreed upon by stakeholders in the produce supply chain. David Dever, President and CEO of Sun World International and Chairman of the group states, "The new guidelines represent an incredible volume of work by industry associations and produce organizations involved in the transport of fresh produce." He continues, "We all know how crucial ensuring the vitality of our carrier industry is to the long term viability of the North America produce industry and this is one tool to support that."
