Raley's Freshens Up Check Stands With Healthier Choices



WEST SACRAMENTO, CA – Raley’s Family of Fine Stores is looking to revolutionize the consumer check-out experience with a focus on health and wellness. The company has announced that it will implement a “Better for You” standard at check stands throughout the chain by removing artificially sweetened sodas, and upgrading other selections.

In addition to removing the aforementioned sodas from its cold cases, the chain will also help its customers to make affordable and nutritious choices during their check-out time by upgrading the offerings consumers may scoop up at the last second. According to a press release, these upgrades to the “Better for You” check stands include further offerings of: 

  • Granola bars
  • Nutrition bars
  • Improved quality of certain candy options

This “Better for You” announcement is just the latest in a string of health-minded choices recently undergone by the company. As we previously reported, Raley’s began offering free fruit to kid consumers in its stores in September. Raley’s also launched its “Let’s Begin” campaign across the chain earlier in August, to help educate consumers on eating and choosing healthy items. 

Furthermore, the company stated that its commitment to the health of its customers has extended into the elimination of high-fructose corn syrup and artificial colors and flavors in its private label soda brands, including its diet options. The company also stopped selling tobacco products across the chain in 2015. 

Raley’s asserted that changes and improvements like these have been made by the company in direct response to consumers’ increased food interests, and ever-growing concerns about their health. By implementing these shifts, Raley’s will continue to commit to the health and needs of its customers. 

Raley’s is further focusing on the healthy consumer with a new concept store, Market 5-ONE-5. The store, a hybrid of small format and an indoor natural foods farmer’s market, is a subsect of the Raley’s banner but will operate independently. The store will put a focus on nutritious foods at fair value.
