Attendees at the recent media briefing sponsored by PBH were treated to samples of Stemilt’s exclusive Pinata apple variety. Stemilt marketing director Roger Pepperl described the unique fruit as "a high-sugar, high-acid apple with classic apple flavors and a unique tropical twist. Its crisp texture and juicy bite make it great for eating fresh out-of-hand.” The Piñata apple variety, named 2001 Apple of the Year in Germany, will be available nationwide in January.
Tom Deardorff, president of Deardorff Family Farms, has been named the new chairman of the board of Western Growers Association and is the fourth generation Deardorff to serve on the Western Growers board. Mr. Deardoff holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a law degree from Southwestern Law School, and has served on the California State Board of Agriculture and the Western Growers board of Directors since 2001.
The Allen Lund Company has been named Best Broker of 2010 by the National Association of Small Trucking Companies.
