Limited Supply Leads to Higher Pricing in Brussels Sprouts Category

UNITED STATES & MEXICO - A recent examination of current vegetable market conditions revealed that the Brussels sprouts category is experiencing higher pricing due to limited supply.

As PRO*ACT noted in its latest The Source Report, light supply is currently coming in from both Mexico and Oxnard, California.

The lighter supply has led to a higher market, according to recent USDA reports. The New York Terminal Market Report, released on April 23, revealed a price range of 30.00-32.00 for 25 lb cartons of California Brussels sprouts and 48.00 for jumbo. Also reporting a high market, the Boston Terminal Market Report showed a range of 42.00-48.00 for jumbo Brussels sprouts from Mexico and California.

Steadier conditions were reported on the West Coast, with reports from Los Angeles and San Francisco showing a range of 40.00-45.00.

As The Source Report stated, the market is currently active, with low supply and strong demand elevating prices, a trend that is expected to continue for the next two to three weeks. Some growers throughout all regions have encountered quality issues, including seeder and some decay.

ANUK will continue to monitor the fluctuations of the Brussels sprouts sector and more, so be on the lookout for more updates like this.
