MISSION, TX – The Texas Citrus Fiesta honored Trent Bishop, VP of Sales for Lone Star Citrus, with the title King Citrus LXXXI, according to a Lone Star Citrus Growers press release. Bishop was nominated by the Ex-Kings Association for his more than 25 years of commitment to the Texas Produce industry; he will represent the Texas Citrus industry not only at the fiesta but throughout the state during his year-long reign.

Trent has dreamed of working in agriculture since high school when he identified that, “people will always need a source of reliable, healthy food to eat.” He pursued a degree in Agricultural Economics with an emphasis on Agri-Business from Texas A&M University, where he graduated in 1994. Following graduation, he worked for Stan Agar at Golden Valley Distributers, before transferring to the sales department of A. Duda & Sons—Valley Onions in 1996. When FoodSource, Inc. purchased Golden Valley Distributers in 2000 it requested that Trent return to manage operations.

Six short years later, Trent was poached yet again—this time by Jud Flowers who asked that he manage the sales department (the company was, at that time named Healds Valley Farms, Inc.). Finally, in 2007 Trent branched off with business partners T.J. and Jud Flowers to open Lone Star Citrus.

“We’ve worked hard since we first opened our doors 10 years ago to build an operation that is efficient and reliable, and Trent has been integral to our success,” said T.J. Flowers, VP of Operations at Lone Star. “We’re all proud to see him represent our industry.”

After his coronation by the 80th King Citrus, Dale Murden, in Mission, Texas, Trent participated in a parade and fair. As part of his kingly duties, Trent will travel to festival and parades throughout Texas for the one-year course of his reign.
