BENTONVILLE, AR - Is September too early to start preparing for the holidays? Not for Walmart, as the retailer has announced plans to welcome approximately 40,000 additional associates to a variety of seasonal and full-time roles in preparation for the holiday rush.

“As we prepare to serve customers this season, we’ll begin, as usual, by offering additional hours to current associates who want them,” the company stated in a release. “In fact, it’s never been easier for part-time associates to pick up extra shifts and build their own schedules with the flexibility they want. After that, we’ll offer the opportunity for those who want to earn extra money working on a temporary basis.”

Among the roles that Walmart will be hiring for are seasonal store associates, full-time, permanent truck drivers, and customer care associates, the release noted.

Although many are being hired seasonally or part-time, the retailer’s associate programs and benefits have proven successful in maintaining employees for longer periods of time. Overall, 75 percent of its U.S. salaried management team in stores, clubs, and supply chain began their careers as hourly associates, including Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon.
