California Giant Berry Farms Announces Partnership With OnePointOne to Bolster Berry Innovation; Joe Barsi and Sam Bertram Comment

WATSONVILLE, CA - California Giant Berry Farms is harnessing tech innovations to bolster the berry category as a whole, as the grower has unveiled a new partnership with OnePointOne, in which it looks to increase its berry output and availability through extensive research and development.

Joe Barsi, President, California Giant Berry Farms“I am excited to be continuing California Giant’s 40 years of industry leadership by partnering with OnePointOne to employ the very best technology run by a strong team of experts who share our core values of mutual respect and fairness in all we do, especially as we farm for the future,” said Joe Barsi, President of California Giant Berry Farms.

With the new partnership, California Giant Berry Farms will look to increase berry output and availability through vertical farming and data-driven berry cultivation, a press release explained. As a result of the new alliance, California Giant will share its berry expertise with OnePointOne, collaborating on data and research to create delicious, nutrient-dense strawberries that align with the berry maven’s high standards.

“One of California Giant’s strategic goals is to have berries when and where our customers need them,” Barsi continued. “We have been watching OnePointOne’s progress for some time and are excited at the possibility of this partnership allowing us to have locally grown berries in various U.S. markets as a supplement to our current production.”

The partnership will first focus on the development of an exclusive strawberry cultivar, where OnePointOne will optimize California Giant’s berry experience and data to grow the strawberries in its automated, aeroponic, vertical-wall indoor farm, as the release explained.

Sam Bertram, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, OnePointOne“OnePointOne’s plant scientists, robotics, and AI will identify the ideal moment for planting, pollination, flowering, and picking that will result in strawberries of the highest quality and brix levels,” said Sam Bertram, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of OnePointOne. “This data paves the way for improved nutrient values, taste, and availability, all while minimizing environmental impact.”

OnePointOne’s revolutionary automated indoor technology offers great product yields and quality, and allows crops to be grown closer to the end consumer. These vertical farming structures are currently in California and Arizona, and are expected to expand throughout the country to improve access to fresh and delicious berries.

“Plants are the basis of human nutrition, and berries are a fundamental piece of the equation,” said Bertram. “By augmenting the current supply chain with OnePointOne’s technology and California Giant’s knowledge and mission, we truly believe we can build healthier humanity where access and availability are greater than ever.”

The outcomes learned as a result of this innovative partnership will be shared with California Giant’s greater operations and applied to traditional field-grown techniques, vastly improving the accessibility of the freshest, highest quality berries.
