MONTEREY, CA - I don’t know about you, but I am ticking off days on my calendar until this year’s Organic Produce Network’s 2021 Organic Produce Summit (OPS) being held in beautiful Monterey, California. Instead of merely daydreaming about the event, I reached out to Organics Unlimited to get a sneak peek at what the company will be showcasing.

Mayra Velazquez de León, President and Chief Executive Officer, Organics Unlimited“OPS is such a good show for the organic sector. It’s where both the small companies and the big names are getting together, so I think it’s the place to be,” Mayra Velazquez de León, President and Chief Executive Officer, starts off. “There’s a good mix of the hardcore organic industry members and multi-nationals who will all be attending this year.”

Adding to the excitement of the show, Organics Unlimited plans on highlighting its coveted organic Cavendish bananas, rolling out all three labels for OPS 2021 attendees—Organics Unlimited, GROW, and Fair Trade Certified.

However, the high-quality bananas that the grower is offering aren’t the only thing that sets it apart from other industry partners.

Daniella Velazquez de León, General Manager, Organics Unlimited“When a retailer works with us, they’re working directly with the grower,” Daniella Velazquez de León, General Manager, tells me. “If you look at pretty much any other banana supplier within the organic sector, with a few exceptions, you’re talking with people who aren’t usually the ones growing the bananas. That’s what separates us from the rest.”

On top of the advantage of being able to talk directly to the growers at Organics Unlimited, the company is also showcasing the high-caliber service standards that it applies to all of its customers.

“We are family-owned and are pioneers in the organic banana industry. Because of our refined approach, you don’t have to go through a long process to connect with the right person, we are here for you,” Mayra adds. “With Organics Unlimited, our customer standard is white-glove service. When I talk with a potential customer, I tell them we dare to be different, so they should too by offering their consumers a socially responsible and fairly traded organic label like Organics Unlimited.”

As Daniella explains, OPS is the optimal time for buyers to join forces with Organics Unlimited, because the demand for Fair Trade and organic products is skyrocketing.

“What we’ve seen lately is more shoppers, and therefore retailers, are interested in socially impactful options,” she enlightens me. “People have already made the transition to organic to the point that it almost feels mainstream, and now they are looking for a differentiator. And that difference comes from social responsibility through Fair Trade products like our bananas."
