BENTONVILLE, AR - We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again, shoppers are on the lookout for products that are not only good for their health, but good for the environment, and Walmart heard the message loud and clear. The company has recently launched a new Built for Better platform, an online shopping experience that spotlights products meeting the retailer’s better-for-you and better-for-the-planet standards.

Jane Ewing, Senior Vice President, Sustainability, Walmart“For many of our customers, living better means shopping intentionally and prioritizing brands and products that align with the things that matter to them, whether it be healthy foods, clean living, or sustainability,” Jane Ewing, Senior Vice President, Sustainability, said. “As we continue to expand our assortment, we too are intentional about ensuring customers have access to these brands and products at everyday low prices. But we know shopping with purpose often takes extra time. It requires researching products and reading labels, all of which can be overwhelming for our busy customers.”

According to a release from the company, the platform highlights two areas of focus: Built Better For You and Built Better For the Planet. Different icons for each area of focus will communicate to consumers which products meet their desires. These will be included across the fresh produce category, featuring over 30 different sustainability standards.

A methodology page is also available for shoppers who put mind over matter. The company release stated, however, that Walmart’s sustainability efforts do not end there.

“This announcement is just one component of Walmart’s greater sustainability strategy and our commitment to become a regenerative company—one dedicated to placing nature and humanity at the center of our business practices,” added Ewing. “Our efforts prioritize people and the planet by aiming to source responsibly, eliminate waste and emissions, sell sustainable products, and protect and restore nature.”
