Ahold Moving Operations for Two U.S. Warehouses; Solidifying Delhaize Merger with Official Filing

BUFFALO, NY - Ahold has announced that it will be transferring the operations of two U.S. facilities.

Both operations will be moved to C&S Wholesale Grocers in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, according to WGRZ.

Jan van Dam, Executive Vice President of Supply Chain and E-commerce, Ahold USA“Decisions to transfer facilities are not easy and we understand the concern that this change will cause for ASC associates and their families,” Jan van Dam, Executive Vice President of Supply Chain and E-commerce, Ahold USA, said in a released statement, according to the report. “We are committed to treating all associates affected by this decision in a fair and respectful way.”

The two locations, one in Lancaster and one in Cheektowaga, will move instead to the C&S Wholesale facilities, affecting 600 employees in total. Full-time employees will be offered severance packages based on the amount of time they have been with the company.

The transition is expected to be completed by August.

The plans come to light simultaneously with the announcement of the retail chain’s having officially filed for its joint merger with Delhaize with the Brussels Commercial Court. According to Ahold, this step is the next necessary one before convening the shareholders for Extraordinary General Meetings, which are slated to take place before the first half of this year is out.

The merger transaction is expected to be completed at some point in mid-2016.
