TORONTO, CANADA - Loblaw is changing the scope of packaging in the retail sector with a new grocery pilot. This week, the grocer announced it is teaming up with Loop™, a state-of-the-art circular shopping system that is also partnered with fellow grocer Kroger. Loblaw’s new pilot with Loop, which will be implemented in 2020, will aim to reduce waste by delivering products from President’s Choice and other leading national brands in reusable containers.

Galen G. Weston, Executive Chairman, Loblaw Companies Limited"There is too much plastic waste," said Galen Weston, Executive Chairman of Loblaw. "Our industry is part of the problem, and we can be part of the solution. Our partnership with Loop is a powerful example of entrepreneurial innovators working with like-minded large enterprise to bring a meaningful solution to a real problem."

According to a press release, Loop enables shoppers to responsibly consume a variety of commonly used products in customized, brand-specific durable packaging that is delivered in a specially designed reusable shipping tote. Upon delivery, the tote is then collected, cleaned, refilled, and reused—setting apart Loop’s platform from others in the biz thanks to its circular shopping system and commitment to durability.

Tom Szaky, Founder and CEO, Loop and TerraCycle"With its operational scale and its commitment to environmental sustainability, Loblaw is the perfect partner to bring Loop to Canada," added Tom Szaky, Founder and CEO of TerraCycle and Loop. "Together, as we bring back the milkman model of yesterday rebooted to reflect the convenience of today, we will help to eliminate the idea of waste and bring a better product experience to consumers."
