Longo's Expands Grocery Gateway Facility to Further Bolster Online Groceries

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO – To feed consumers’ growing appetite for online grocery delivery, Longo’s announced last week that the company is tripling the size of its Grocery Gateway facility. The expansion is intended to meet shoppers’ demand for fresh, high-quality produce and groceries deliver to their door.

Anthony Longo, President and CEO, Longo Brothers Fruit Markets“Online grocery shopping has officially come of age in the Greater Toronto Area,” said Anthony Longo, President and CEO of Longo Brothers Fruit Markets, in a company press release. “We’re investing in our infrastructure to meet shopper demand. Our success builds upon consumer insights from nearly 20 years of online grocery delivery. These expanded facilities, increases in delivery vehicles including energy efficient hybrids, and the newly redesigned Grocery Gateway site makes it even easier and more convenient for shoppers to get all their groceries, wine and beer delivered.”

In addition to a generally-expanded capacity, the company has a number of new features on its website, including:

  • A redesigned Grocery Gateway site that makes getting good food delivered even easier, with innovations such as live Scratchpad shopping lists and Cart Starter-themed grocery lists that help new shoppers build their shopping list quickly and easily.
  • Putting fresh food in the spotlight: the new site features streamlined aisles, individual top 100 most-shopped products, and a simplified checkout that deliver an enhanced shopping experience and make the new Grocery Gateway more intuitive than ever.
  • Regular items can now be saved to personal “Shopping List” and loaded before adding specific ingredients.

Over the past two years, the site’s growth in both new shoppers and order sizes have increased rapidly, reaching double digit percentage growth since the relaunch of the Grocery Gateway site this June.

Longo’s Grocery Gateway facility currently stocks more than 10,000 grocery items. The facility’s expansion and renovation will allow the company to expand its inventory to roughly 16,000 items and continue to exceed consumers’ expectations in terms of quality and diversity of products. Expanded frozen, grocery, refrigerated items, and produce sections will offer consumers a wider range of fresh and local foods.

Grocery Gateway by Longo’s offers consumers the fresh food and grocery essentials Longo’s is known for delivered right to their door. The company claims online grocery delivery can save busy people an average of 1.5 hours each week, by eliminating the need to leave home, travel to the grocery store, park, shop, and return home.

The site currently offers 90-minute delivery windows for next-day delivery or, should customers prefer, any other day within a two-week period.
