SpartanNash-Owned Gordy's Sold, Rebranded as KJ's Fresh Market

CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI - Gordy’s Markets has seen a tumultuous past few months. After failing to pay off its $46 million loan to Nash Finch, a subsidiary of SpartanNash, five of the retailer’s stores were sold to Nash Finch and rebranded as Family Fare® Supermarkets. The latest development has three of those stores—located in Cheek, Barron, and Cornell—being sold to KJ’s of Wisconsin; they will subsequently be rebranded as KJ’s Fresh Market.

Keith Johanneson, CEO, KJ’s Fresh Market“We look forward to building relationships with our retail team members, store guests, and local partners, listening and learning about how we can better serve each of these three unique communities’ needs,” stated CEO Keith Johanneson in a recent press release. “Our goal is to provide quality groceries, superior meat, and produce—all in an inviting shopping experience in every store. We intend to invest in remodeling and making physical plant improvements once we fully elevate the needs of the local communities.”

The transaction, according to the press release, is expected to close in early June. KJ’s Fresh Market will begin working with local store management and team members to ensure a smooth transition.
