YAKIMA, WA - Cosmic Crisp® was aptly named, as the growth of the variety defies earthly limitations. The latest round of a Superfresh Category Management® report, supplied by Superfresh Growers®, noted that retailers who bet on Cosmic Crisp early tend to earn big dollars.

“We are hearing retail success when Honeycrisp and Cosmic Crisp apple are price aligned. Cosmic Crisp and Honeycrisp apple have set the bar for what customers are willing to pay for a premium apple,” commented Catherine Gipe-Stewart, Communications Manager.

According to the report, per the latest four weeks, Cosmic Crisp retail was at $2.47/lb nationally, close to Honeycrisp at $2.66/lb. All of this data is Nielsen data ending April 24, 2021.

This same April, Nielsen data shows that in its sophomore year, the Cosmic Crisp apple is showing a very strong standing, coming in at #11 over the latest four weeks.

In April alone, Cosmic Crisp brought in $4.5 million in sales. The company noted in its report that, with sales dollars building off this momentum, the variety appears poised to soon run down McIntosh and Ambrosia in dollar sales.

“There is still time to promote Cosmic Crisp this season,” continued Gipe-Stewart. “Superfresh Growers will have volume into summer. The flavor and crunchy bite of Cosmic Crisp stays fresh all season long. This is an amazing summer apple, great for grilling, adding to burgers, lemonades, and summer fruit platters.
