Target In Talks to Buy Deliv's Grocery Delivery Technology

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Online grocery is a retailer’s best friend these days, with delivery, pick-up, and other contactless technologies rolling out en masse across the sector. Target is one of many looking to add additional online grocery capabilities to its operations with a possible acquisition of same-day delivery startup Deliv.

According to NBC News, who first broke the news, Target had previously considered acquiring Deliv, but deemed it unprofitable at the time. Now, with Deliv in the process of shutting down its operations, Target is making moves to acquire the startup’s grocery technology and welcome Deliv’s CEO, Daphne Carmeli, to its team.

"Deliv is in the process of completing a deal to sell technology assets to Target, and Deliv's CEO along with a subset of the team will be moving over to Target. Target is not involved in the wind-down," Deliv said in a statement, according to NBC News.

What really caught Target’s eye is Deliv’s ability to “pool multiple orders and route them to a similar place,” which will help the retailer bolster its fast delivery capabilities. Target also owns same-day grocery delivery provider Shipt.
