AURORA, CO - Walmart Real Estate Business Trust has bought 169 acres in Colorado, stirring speculation of a sizeable new distribution center in the works.

While the retail giant and its property arm declined to comment on what’s to come of the acreage, the Denver Business Journal reports that, with Walmart’s recent activity in opening e-commerce facilities around the country, the size is right for this area to be next on the list.

It would mean a good number of jobs for the area, however the retailer tends to keep tight-lipped on plans that have yet to be solidified and has given no confirmation that this will be the next sizeable facility.

As we have previously reported, $4.6 million in incentives was approved by the Mobile City Council in Irvington, Alabama, for what the area hopes will bring a Walmart distribution center of close to two million-square-feet.

Walmart bought this latest piece of land for $13.5 million, located about fifteen minutes away from the area’s Interstate 70 highway.

"Companies are looking for proximity and access. There's plenty of proximity, but access is key," Bill Wichterman, Vice President and General Counsel at A&C Properties, told the Business Journal. A&C Properties has been working on Porteos, the 1,287-acre site that is zoned for all commercial uses and that Walmart’s new acreage is located on.
