Heavy Showers and Thunderstorms Set to Hit Florida

FLORIDA – A storm front that has been percolating in the Pacific as a tropical depression is headed toward Florida later this week, bringing heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to the peninsula.

Dan Kottlowskit, Hurricane Expert, Accuweather"An uptick in downpours is likely over the Florida Peninsula spanning later Thursday and Friday," noted Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski, in an AccuWeather report. "It is unlikely the former Tropical Depression Four will redevelop, but there is another area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic that bears watching."

According to the report, the storm will bring increased risk of urban flooding, isolated damaging wind gusts, and rough, choppy seas and rip currents in coastal waters.

Heavy showers and winds are set to hit Florida Thursday and Friday

The storm will also, thankfully, provide a needed dose of rainfall to a region that has recently been beset by drought. While the state is no longer considered to be in drought after a wet winter, spring, and early-summer, the downpour could provide a welcome relief from a recent spell of dry weather—particularly in the southeastern part of the state.

The storm front is currently moving westward from north of the Greater Antilles, and will spread across the Bahamas and into Florida as the week progresses.
