Lidl Continues Long Island Expansion with Three New Stores

LONG ISLAND, NY - Lidl continues to accelerate its U.S. expansion, focusing on Long Island, New York, as a region for growth. The grocer previously released plans for retail expansion in Long Island in several neighborhoods, with an end goal of opening more than 50 stores in the region over the next decade.

One wave of this expansion has manifested in three store openings this month, including locations in West Babylon, Center Moriches, and the latest in Huntington. Not all of these and future stores are expected to be newly-constructed—over the next two years Lidl plans to convert all of the 27 Best Market stores it acquired in 2018. Both the Huntington and West Babylon stores will follow the converted model, while the store in Center Moriches will be located in a former Waldbaum’s space, according to Newsday.

Lild continues its efforts to open 50 Long Island stores over the next 10 years, cutting the ribbon on three stores this month alone

Lidl holds a strong global presence and is building up its operations in the U.S., with more than 75 stores in nine states across the East Coast, the news source reports. The retailer’s current aggressive Long Island expansion initiative marks a continuation of Lidl’s plans to cement its place in the U.S. market.

Will Lidl follow through with its 50-store plan by the end of the decade? We will let you know in 2021.
