Stemilt’s Organic Apricots Hit Early Peak

WENATCHEE, WA - Stemilt is approaching its peak shipping period for organic apricots about 10 days earlier than usual this season.

Through July 15th, Stemilt will ship Washington-grown apricots to meet the demand for organic fruits, which is at an all-time high this season, according to Roger Pepperl, Stemilt’s Marketing Director.

Roger Pepperl, Marketing Director, Stemilt“Consumer demand for organic fruits is at an all-time high, and our organic apricots offer retailers with a special summer item to bring in and sell out,” he said. “Increasing display space and highlighting the dessert flavors of our Artisan Organics apricots during this peak season are great ways to appeal to consumers, and bring more dollars to your produce department.”

Based around delivering fruit with dessert flavors, Stemilt’s Artisan Organics cot program produces apricots with deeper hues and complex flavors and textures thanks to the warm days and cool nights that are common at its southcentral Washington growing locales. Sixty-five percent of Stemilt’s apricots are grown and certified organic, according to a press release.

Rival and Perfection, Stemilt’s main apricot varieties, are peaking on jumbo sizes and delivering on high flavors. Both varieties are now being harvested.

Stemilt packs the majority of its jumbo-sized apricots in panta packs. The company also packs apricots in high-graphic 1.6 lb. pouch bags and 1 lb. clamshells.

Pepperl recommended that retailers promote the grower of apricots through in-store signage and digital and social media to further capture impulse sales.

“Organic consumers care how their food is grown and want to know who it is grown by,” he said. “Our apricots come primarily from the Douglas family, a multi-generational farming family that has farmed organically for nearly a decade and works diligently to harvest tree-ripened, flavorful fruit. Their story is worth sharing, and extra attention through signage and messaging the peak season of apricots through digital programs like email or social media, are ideal ways to capture impulse sales.”
