Typhoon Sarika to Bring Flood, High Wind, and Rain to China



CHINA and VIETNAM – Typhoon Sarika is moving from the Phillipines and onward through the South China Sea to bring severe weather to southern China and northern Vietnam. The typhoon is expected to land in parts of China on Tuesday, and then move north as it progresses. 

According to AccuWeather, Sarika has seen strength equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane near Chinese island province Hainan, with winds reported of 90 mph near the storm’s eye.

The typhoon is expected to first land on Hainan on Tuesday, then move north into the Leizhou Peninsula before heading north through the Gulf of Tonkin. Sarika will make its final land appearance on Wednesday in northeastern Vietnam and then move inland towards the border between China and Vietnam. 

Sarika is expected to bring heavy rainfall of more than 8 inches across Hainan, northern Vietnam, and the Guangxi province of South China. AccuWeather stated that rain and high winds and could lead to risk of flash flooding, high tides, and mudslides in these areas.

Officials have stated that as the storm system interacts with land it will weaken, but will still cause significant impact across the previously named regions after crossing bodies of water as it moves towards its final landfall.
