ECUADOR - Reports have revealed that a shipment of bananas recently left for Europe, carrying much more than bananas. At one of the ports located in the south of Guayaquil, Ecuador, authorities discovered two tons of cocaine hidden amongst the bananas.

According to Colonel Yuri Narváez, Deputy Director of the Anti-Drug Investigation Unit (UIAN), the shipment was discovered as officials detected a container that entered the pre-shipment area had its security seals tampered with.

The cargo was intended to be sent to Sweden, as noted by 247 News Agency. Upon being reviewed by a canine trained in narcotics detection, the Ports and Airports Investigation unit discovered 37 packages with 2,218 rectangular-type packages inside. A field test confirmed that there were 2.2 tons of cocaine present.

While the exact dollar amount of the shipment was undisclosed, Narváez informed the source that the monetary affectation to the gang for this seizure would be 123 million dollars, which is the value of the drug placed in Europe.
