Officials Uncover Cocaine Hidden Within Green Apple Shipment in Mumbai

MUMBAI, INDIA - The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is continuing to protect fresh produce as it recently seized a shipment of over 1,000 cartons of green apples containing an illegal substance this past week. Over 50 kg (110 lbs) of cocaine was found in the shipment imported from South Africa. The cocaine was valued at ₹502 crore, nearly $61 million.

According to Hindustan Times, DRI sources said they suspected containers of imported fruit with hidden drugs were on the way to India from South Africa. On the basis of specific intelligence, they isolated a container that arrived at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Nava Sheva, Navi Mumbai, on October 5.
