Reports: KFC to Tap Into Plant-Based Hype

LOUISVILLE, KY - Colonel Sanders could soon be marching to the beat of a new drum—a drum playing the sweet beats of meatless meat. This week, Seeking Alpha reported that beloved fried chicken chain KFC is interested in testing plant-based products, especially if companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible™ continue to trend positively with consumers.

Kevin Hochman, U.S. President, KFC“We don’t see chicken as a big trend right now,” Kevin Hochman, U.S. President, revealed to CNN Business. “But we are definitely looking at it in earnest and meeting with the big suppliers of alternative proteins to understand the market and where it’s headed…[if plant-based poultry] gets more and more mainstream and we think it’s right for our customers, we certainly would test it.”

Agreeing to test vegan-friendly fare is already leaps and bounds ahead of fast food giant McDonald’s, who appears to be uncharacteristically hesitant to expand its offerings to include meatless meat—boo!

Should KFC deem plant-based chicken finger lickin' good, it would join the likes of Del Taco, Taco Bell, Chipotle, Carl’s Jr., Burger King, and Kroger in giving the vegetarian/vegan/flexitarian folk what they want.
