WATSONVILLE, CA - Judging by the amount of traffic I’ve been stuck in lately, it’s back-to-school season—good-bye sweet summer mornings with few cars on the road. While students from kindergarten to college are officially back to hitting the books, California Giant Berry Farms is honing in on college-bound students in its latest back-to-school campaign, the College Fresh Start promotion and sweepstakes, that is helping more students eat healthy.

While the first weeks of school can be crazy, healthy eating doesn’t have to be. In a press release, California Giant acknowledges that buying groceries may be a new experience for some college students, while eating healthy on a budget is tricky for most.

“This hits home with many family members of the California Giant staff, as they head off to college or back to college, and as our summer interns return to school this fall,” said Cindy Jewell, VP of Marketing.

To take one thing off of college students’ plates, California Giant kicked off The Fresh Start Promotion the first week in August, which includes two e-books (released August 1 and September 15) packed with recipes and tips on how to eat healthy in and out of the dorm, as well as sweepstakes to win one of eight Visa gift cards. The six-week promotion also includes social media advertising, email marketing, and blog postings. And, according to a press release, California Giant has already received over 64,000 sweepstakes submissions, with an additional 8,000 young adults logging in as new contacts in the company’s database to receive more information in the future.

The promotion even provides recipes, short cuts, and hacks for parents adjusting back to the hectic-ness of the school year, including tips for packing lunches and getting kids out the door in time to catch the bus or carpool without skipping the most important meal of the day.
