SAN ANTONIO, TX - It’s no secret that “snacking” and “organic” are two hot words inside and outside the produce industry, and while visiting Viva Fresh exhibitors in San Antonio last month, I met someone who could tell us about both.

Tony Otto, Sales Manager of Magic Sun Farms, shared with me that the high-tech, hydroponic greenhouse grower is revving up its capacity overall, particularly in its ability to serve the organic industry.

Anthony Otto, Sales Manager, Magic Sun Farms“We are 20 percent organic this year,” he shared. “Year over year we have been expanding our capacity with the organics, and it’s one area we really excel as growers.”

This fall, Magic Sun, which has operations based in Central Mexico, will be growing 182 acres of greenhouse space.

“Obviously there’s been a lot of growth in the snacking category, and so we’ve made a big investment to participate in the snacking and the organics,” Tony commented.

While currently the year-round grower’s biggest crops are conventional TOV and Beefsteak tomatoes, it also offers organic TOV and Beefsteak, grape tomatoes, organic grape tomatoes, medley, and cocktail tomatoes
