SEATTLE, WA - I’m not easily shocked. But Jeff Bezos stepping down from his position as Amazon’s CEO did leave my mouth agape. Now, the retailer’s plans for Bezos have become more prominent, as it appears that he is gearing up to more strategically tackle Amazon’s foray into grocery.

“[Jeff] will be involved in many large one-way-door issues, as we say, one-way doors, meaning the more important decisions, things like acquisitions, things like strategies, and going into grocery and other things,” stated Brian Olsavsky, Chief Financial Officer, on the company’s earnings call.

Amazon has not been a stranger to grocery for some time. This news comes down the pipeline as reports from the nation—nay, the globe—signal that Amazon is far from being done expanding into the sector.

Its most recent update comes from Milan, where the retailer is expanding its Amazon Fresh grocery delivery services, according to Ruetir. An additional report from KSTP.com says that the Amazon Fresh banner is setting up shop in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota.

Although Bezos’ role in Amazon’s grocery expansion plans has yet to solidify, we have a feeling that it’s going to mean big changes for both the retail sector and the company itself.
