IRVINE, CA - Good morning, AndNowUKnow readers!

Today, I am bringing you some of the category and weather news from around the industry. Check back twice weekly to see the latest around all growing regions.


CULICÁN, SINALOA, TO SEE RAIN AND COLD TEMPERATURES

The forecast is for up to .75” of rain this weekend in Culiacán and cold temperatures slated for next week. Look for the rain to start Sunday, receiving .50” and continue into Monday and Tuesday. As the storm clears out, look for Wednesday to have the coldest temperatures of the season so far. Wednesday will have a high of 71° and an overnight low of 44°. Thursday night will have a minimum temperature of 45°. Minimum temperatures will finally return to the 50°s by Saturday night.

Look for similar temperatures and rain in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. La Cruz, south of Culiacán, will see rain as well, but not such cold overnight temperatures.

Between the rain and the cold temperatures, look for supplies to tighten and possible quality issues. You might want to stock up this week on tomatoes and other items coming from these regions.

FLORIDA TO SEE RAIN AND COLD TEMPERATURES

Florida to see a good chance of rain this weekend along with colder temperatures. Look for rain in all major southern Florida growing regions on Saturday followed by some cold temperatures on Sunday. The forecast is for .50” of rain in Belle Glade, Immokalee, and Homestead on Saturday. Temperatures throughout the region on Sunday will include highs in the upper 60°s and lows in the mid-40°s. Look for a possible slowdown in production.

Plant City is expected to avoid the rain, which is good news for the strawberry growers.

Maximum temperatures will return to the 80°s by Tuesday, but there is another chance of rain next Thursday, February 6.

WARM TEMPERATURES OUT WEST THIS WEEKEND FOLLOWED BY COOLER TEMPERATURES

Temperatures in California today and tomorrow will jump by 10° over yesterday’s highs. Look for maximum temperatures in Oxnard and Santa Maria in the mid-70°s and minimum temperatures in the mid-50°s. Coachella and Yuma will see maximum temperatures in the 80°s and minimum temperatures in the low 50°s.

Look for a possible uptick on volumes of strawberries out of Oxnard and Coachella. We’re awaiting whether this will have any affect on lettuces in Yuma.

Temperatures will cool again on Monday and Tuesday, with maximum and coastal regions. Plan accordingly to take advantage of these temperature swings.

RAIN COMING TO MEXICAN LIME REGION

Martínez de la Torre, Veracruz, will definitely see rain today and tomorrow with cooler temperatures tomorrow. Look for up to .75” of rain today and another .75” tomorrow. Maximum temperatures tomorrow will only reach 65°.
