Frieda's Karen Caplan, Jackie Caplan Wiggins, and Alex Jackson Berkley Featured in Family Business Magazine
LOS ALAMITOS, CA – Frieda’s Specialty Produce is making headlines for more than just its high-quality specialty fruits and vegetables; it's receiving accolades for its storied history and continued success. The company was recently featured in national publication Family Business Magazine as the cover story for its July/August issue.
The article, titled “A Fruitful Female Partnership at Frieda’s,” digs into the history and future plans of Frieda’s, according to a press release. The company is co-owned by President and CEO Karen Caplan and Vice President and COO Jackie Caplan Wiggins.
Author Hedda T. Schupak illuminates the dynamics, work-life balance, current vision, and future plans surrounding the Frieda’s family.
“Sisters Karen Caplan and Jackie Caplan Wiggins have grown Frieda’s, the pioneering specialty produce wholesaler, since taking over from Frieda Caplan, their mother. Now that Karen’s daughter Alex [Jackson Berkley] has joined the business, they’re beginning to contemplate the next transition,” wrote Schupak in the introduction to her exclusive interview with the Caplan women.
So, what’s one tidbit on where Frieda’s is heading from the article?
“We’re in discussion now on succession planning…what our options are for leadership of the company,” said Karen in the article.
For her own part as a Senior Account Manager, Alex discussed her current position and how she is working towards taking over the reins of the company in the future.
“I’m on the path and would be good at it,” Alex told Schupak. But for right now, “I’m trying to grow the business and push our numbers forward and to be a good leader, family member, and employee.”
