MCALLEN, TX - Market insights and a glimpse of what to expect at this year’s Viva Fresh—what more could you ask for in an industry update? Grow Farms’ Tommy Wilkins, Director of Sales and Business Development, recently satisfied curious minds with a look at the grower’s product portfolio as it preps for the fast-approaching fresh produce trade show.

Tommy Wilkins, Director of Sales and Business Development, Grow Farms“We are in the final stages of a wonderful run on cabbage. Sales were strong for St. Patrick’s Day, and the weather was good for a great-quality presentation,” Tommy shared, diving into a few aspects of the grower’s current vegetable production. “We are in the infancy of our Texas onion production. Crews are now beginning to clip, and we expect to be shipping by the last week of March.”

Grow Farms also reported that its Texas watermelon crop is looking strong for a late-April to early-May season kickoff. Weather has been favorable for the crop, with demand remaining strong. As Tommy also shares with me, the supplier’s mango season has been off to a slightly slower start, but volume is expected to pick up right after the Easter holiday.

Tommy also shared some insight into a few of the grower’s year-round offerings.

“Our vegetable program out of Mexico runs nearly 12 months a year. Hot peppers, tomatoes, bell peppers, and cucumbers lead off this high-quality menu,” Tommy adds. “We are looking forward to highlighting our portfolio and getting the chance to see everyone at Viva Fresh in Grapevine, Texas!”
