Burnac Produce Welcomes Lucy Domingues; Alex Mitsiopoulos Comments
WOODBRIDGE, ON - Never one to sit idle and always with an eye to experience that will add to its growth, Burnac Produce has welcomed a key new face to the team. Lucy Domingues has joined on as the new Manager of Business Development, reporting directly to Lorne Burnett, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer, and working alongside the category and executive teams.
“I am honored to initiate further opportunities and be a part of Burnac Produce as we adapt to the changes and needs of today,” Lucy shared with me. “Working alongside Burnac’s executive and category teams, whose knowledge, innovation, and integrity are reflective of the whole Burnac family, is truly impressive!”
As Alex Mitsiopoulos, Director of Human Resources, explained, the changing labor landscape has necessitated a change in strategy. As such, Burnac Produce Group has invested in its greatest asset: the people.
“Burnac Produce Group has undertaken a new strategy to deepen the connection we have with employees and further humanize the company. Focusing on seven deliberate lines of effort, our team has cultivated a brand personality that values diversity in experience and progressive business practices to provide our workforce with the best possible employment experience,” he shared.
With 20-plus years of experience in fresh produce, as well as the inherited knowledge of watching her mom work in the industry for over 30 years, Lucy is a perfect fit in this latest expansive move. Her new title is the latest in a well-navigated series of professional accomplishments that Lucy is enthusiastic to utilize.
“From farm to table, the group at Burnac facilitates and executes every step of the process effectively and efficiently to ensure fresh, top-of-the-line quality in every item—locally sourced and from all corners of the world; both conventional and organic. The hands-on approach, support, and ambition this group has is one like no other,” Lucy reflects. “Those in the industry who have ‘lived produce,’ with its forever changing and challenging customer demands and supply needs, know that an anchor and driving force like Burnac is crucial to push forward, be creative, and pivot to deliver the best of fresh produce.”
Those who’ve come to know her know to ask Lucy, because “she will figure it out!”—a trait she attributes to having watched, listened, and questioned until she could execute since joining the industry as a teenager.
“Having been given opportunities and experiences in all aspects of the fresh produce industry from leafy greens to hot house vegetables, to citrus and beyond, I’ve figured my way out and, in the process, gained a lot of experience, knowledge, and formed relationships with many great like-minded people,” Lucy concluded. “My journey afforded me an understanding from the grower’s perspective at farm-level all the way to the needs of the customer, allowing me to come full circle and contribute my more than 20 years of experience to the group at Burnac, while adding to their already extensive knowledge and expertise.”
Burnac Group is a Burnett family-owned group of companies operating throughout Canada and the United States and all parts of the world. To understand more about its operations and people, read an in-depth article on the company from The Snack.
