The Fresh Market Eyes Expansion Opportunity in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH, PA - Geographical expansion seems to be in the works for The Fresh Market. According to recent reports, the Greensboro, North Carolina-based retail chain is seeking to expand its presence in the East Liberty area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported, the grocer is in the process of finalizing a lease to take over a 32,500-square-foot store at 5880 Centre, which was previously a Whole Foods Market location. Whole Foods exited the space a year ago when it relocated its store to Liberty East after a run of nearly 21 years.

The Fresh Market currently has only one store in the region, located at 1551 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. The grocer’s overall footprint comprises 159 locations in 22 states, including four on the eastern side of Pennsylvania.

Back in July, the grocer pulled back the curtain on other elements of operational development when it announced the appointment of two new executives.
