Highline Mushrooms Quiz Quix Winners Announced: Trinidad Valdivia and George Szczepanski
SACRAMENTO, CA - The holiday season is all about giving, and AndNowUKnow will be sharing the gift of $100 cash prizes with two quick-witted industry members for their exemplary performance on the recent Highline Mushrooms Quiz Quix. Earning recognition from the buy-side is Trinidad (Trini) Valdivia, Senior Manager Quality Control of Produce-Floral for United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) Produce, and taking home supply-side gold is George Szczepanski, Director of Membership for the Produce Marketing Association (PMA).
We reached out to both winners for victory speeches and were pleased to hear that Trini not only earned a prize but gathered some insightful information from the quiz.
“The quiz was very informative, and I learned things about mushrooms that are grown in Canada,” he said. “As we grow our mushroom category, it’s great to know the growers’ information as well as learn about the regions where they are grown. For us, the key to mushrooms is to get them in and out to the end user as fast as possible so they experience the freshness of the commodity.”
Like Trini, George was doubly rewarded by winning the prize and getting enjoyment from the quiz to brighten his day. Not to mention, it may have inspired him to test out his culinary skills as well.
“Clearly, I enjoy taking the quizzes—it’s a fun little challenge to break up the day, and I love the opportunity to get to know the new products that your partners/PMA’s members are bringing to the world, as well as some of the interesting history of how those companies became category leaders,” he told us. “This quiz made me ready to make a fall meal with mushrooms, like the saffron risotto my mom made me growing up, loaded with beautiful fresh mushrooms and onions.”
